How to Build an Audience While You Travel
Traveling full-time used to mean disconnecting. Now? It’s a chance to connect more deeply—with your audience, your story, and a global community of people who dream of the life you’re living.
If you want to build a business, share your experience, or grow a platform while you explore the world, good news: you can absolutely do it. Even better? You don’t need to go viral, be an influencer, or post every second of your life.
Here’s how I’m doing it—and how you can, too.
1. Document, Don’t Perform
Let go of perfection. You don’t need to be the next travel vlogger with drone shots and cinematic edits. Instead, just share what’s real:
A voice note from the beach
A photo of your favorite breakfast spot
A blog post about how hard it was to find Wi-Fi in that charming old town
People connect to people, not highlight reels. The more human you are, the more your audience will show up for you.
2. Pick One Main Platform and Show Up Consistently
Whether it’s Instagram, YouTube, Substack, or your blog—pick one and commit to it. Don’t try to do everything, everywhere, or you’ll burn out fast.
Build your voice. Get comfortable. Be consistent. I’m doing that with my blog (and slowly expanding to YouTube). You can always grow into more platforms later—but start with one you enjoy using.
3. Use Travel as Content Fuel
You’re literally living the kind of life people want to learn about—so use it.
Turn that visa run into a how-to guide. Turn a strange Airbnb mishap into a funny reel. Turn your grocery haul into a post about what’s different (or surprisingly the same) in your new location.
The stuff that feels “normal” to you while traveling is fascinating to someone back home.
4. Build a Simple Email List (Don’t Skip This!)
Social media is great—but you don’t own your followers. You do own your email list.
Set up a freebie people can download (a checklist, a map, a guide), then send emails once or twice a month with stories, tips, or updates. This becomes your core audience—the people who will buy, share, and support your work.
5. Batch Content When You Can (But Don’t Obsess)
You won’t always have great Wi-Fi. Or energy. Or the desire to sit on your laptop in Bali when there’s a sunset calling your name.
So, when you do feel focused, batch a few posts, photos, or videos at once. Keep drafts saved. Schedule ahead when possible. And don’t beat yourself up if you skip a day or two—the beauty of building an audience around your real life is that your life gets to come first.
6. Lean Into Your Niche—Even If It’s Small
You don’t need to be everything to everyone. In fact, it’s better if you’re not.
Focus on your real passions: solo female travel, crypto and BRICS, cooking in tiny kitchens, parenting abroad—whatever makes you light up.
The more specific you are, the faster your people will find you.
Final Thoughts: You Don’t Need a Million Followers
You just need connection. Real stories. A consistent voice. And the courage to start—even if you’re still figuring it out.
Whether you want to build a business, write a book, or just leave a digital trail for others to follow, traveling while building an audience is 100% possible—and maybe the most powerful combination there is.
